Re: git plugin 4.0.0 submodule shallow clone fails without local branch (detached HEAD) Shallow clone of submodules is probably best reserved for those cases where the workspace is known to be a fresh fetch every time. For example, an ephemeral agent which runs the job and is then destroyed. When I updated a submodule in my JENKINS-60204 check to move it backwards one version, the checkout fails when the workspace already exists.
