When plugin's default config is initially configured or updated, the Use SMTP Authentication is not persisted. This was not detected by existing roundtrip tests because they configure values using java API, do a browser roundtrip, and assert descriptor holds the same data. Which it does, as it is a singleton, but there is no way to tell whether they ware updated or not.
