Jenkins / Improvement JENKINS-58857
add safer github auth trough GitHub Plugin or through Credentials
Issue Type: Improvement Improvement
Assignee: Jack Newcombe
Attachments: Selectie_081.png
Components: github-coverage-reporter-plugin
Created: 2019-08-08 09:20
Environment: Jenkins ver. 2.176.2
Labels: security configuration user-experience
Priority: Minor Minor
Reporter: Robbert Korving

Currently the github auth token has to be copy/pasted in an input field at "Manage Jenkins" -> "Configure System". Because of this an already created token can't be reused. Github doesn't show used tokens and Jenkins doesn't show its credentials content. It can also be seen as a security risk that an access token is exposed in that screen.

I would be great if this plugin can use Jenkins Credentials to set the token or even use the setting from the GitHub Plugin. I imagine everybody who want to use this plugin has the GitHub Plugin already setup.

Jenkins credentials sounds like a good bet as they can be shared between plugins. I'll look into this soon.
