It is a follow-up to https://github.com/jenkinsci/jenkins/pull/3679

Instead of hardcoding tests in a profile, we should create a JUnit test category and pass critical tests via annotations: https://github.com/junit-team/junit4/wiki/categories.

It would be great to introduce a "SmokeTest" category and to refactor the "smoke-test" profile in pom.xml to run tests from core/* and from the specified category
