Help in providing documentation related to "How to make a plugin to save models data in a custom config file"

Hi,
I am planning to develop a new plugin, planning to save data (Models) in a custom config file (xml file), looked around the Jenkins wiki but didn't figured out related tutorial or documentation.
Can any one help me providing links or any documentation, it will be helpful for me to proceed further.
