I am requesting to host a new plugin.

This plugin allows you to copy a file located on a server into job's workspaces. Similar to copy-to-slave plugin - indeed I am re-using a class from there- but with the difference that this one allows you to ssh a server instead of only using the file storage on the machine where the Jenkins master is installed. It is also integrated with the credentials plugin.

It just occured to me that none of the three plugins dealing with SFTP, SCP, or SSH that I am aware of offer file retrieval functionality. These are the three I am referencing:

My question would be whether or not this functionality should be added to an existing plugin. In fact, it seems this has already been discussed in relation to the Publish Over SSH plugin: https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-16035

I am not saying that it should, just that it is worth discussing.

Personally I think that the two have different use cases so not sure it would be useful to join the two together? (i.e. one is publishing files out after a build and the other one is getting files - which perhaps should act as a SCM plugin and a Build Step -- the latter I assume is what is happening in the sftp-get-ssh plugin?)

To be honest, I gave a try to integrate with Publish Over SSH as detailed in :https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-16035. However, since this plugin is a publisher and also depends on Publish Over plugin:

1. I found it quite hard 

2. I though it might not be accepted by the maintainer.

As Richard said, this functionality is to get files in the Workspace, which AFAIK is not in any of those plugins.

I agree that the use case is a bit different, and I do not think the publish over plugin would be the best place for this functionality. Out of the three I would think the SCP plugin would probably be the best choice - assuming one wanted to go that route.

At the same time, I agree with Richard that it seems to me like this functionality should be an SCM option, in which case it would probably make more sense to create a new plugin.
