[GSoC2016] - New generation of Fingerprinting engine for Jenkins

Hi Jenkins contributors,

I am a graduate from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in Computer Science and Engineering and currently doing my masters program in National University of Singapore in Software Engineering.

I am a experienced java developer with good understanding in Cryptography, Integration and Design patterns.

I am interested in doing the "New generation of Fingerprinting engine for Jenkins". Can you please provide me more details regarding this improvement or any resources to get the underlining implementations?

As a mentor, I'll be available at the Office Hours on March 7th (Wiki will be updated today).

The current storage engine is not documented very well from the user point of view. It's possible to get some information from Javadoc.

2 All, Does Jenkins has some plugin that allow tagging jobs, folders and etc instead of having tree structure for navigation?

Would it make sense to write such plugin as additional reference implementation?

It's off-topic, but there is https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Metadata+plugin , which allows to implement this use-case.
Technically it's possible to write a fingerprint-based implementation, but I don't see much added value in this approach. WDYT?

Thanks a lot for the references. I have gone through the suggested materials and got some idea about the module.

Also I have setup the Jenkins project with Fingerprinting enabled and it looking good.

Can you give me some suggestions regarding the improvements to be done for this module and any source code implementations? So that i can get some understanding of internal work being done in this module.
