Hello,
I'm the creator of Jenkins and a member of the Jenkins governane board, and I'm writing this email in that capacity.
Our project name "Jenkins" is a registered trademark (
#4664929), and
our project charter states that a use of this trademark for services like "Jenkins Hosting" require sublicensing, subject to the approval/blessing of
the project meeting. But we have no record of approving this use.
So I think we need to talk. There's
an email thread going on in the jenkinsci-dev list about this, and this email is copied there. If you can join the list and respond, we can keep this conversaion in the jenkinsci-dev list --- I'd appreciate that.
(In the past, the project has given the blessing to name usage such as "Jenkins Enterprise by CloudBees", "CloudBees Jenkins Enterprise", and so on, which prominently includes the name of the entity offering products/services. "Jenkins Hosting" doesn't match this pattern, so personally I expect this to be a difficult request, whereas "Jenkins Hosting by FooBar" or "FooBar Jenkins Hosting" would have been much easier. But like I said, let's talk.)
