Migrating plugin configuration when installing updating plugin

Hi,

I would like to work on https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-15925. As suggested on https://github.com/jenkinsci/ec2-plugin/pull/28, I want to migrate the Security Groups value of the current configuration to the new format (to use pipe “|” as a separator instead of commas “,") when installing the plugin.

Is there a way to execute this migration when the plugin is installed if it comes from an old enough version? If so, links to documentation/code of plugins that do this would be greatly appreciated.
