Hi dear friends and rellies,

Letting you know that I'm off on an adventure. I've accepted a job with Ashland County, and will be moving to Ashland September 10th. But, being me, I'm not selling my house here right away. Big believer in retaining options.

Ashland is on the shores of Lake Superior with fantastic beaches, long winters,  hiking trails and woods and  waterfalls connected by gravel roads.

In my heart (of the city) hearts I fantasize most of you will gradually join me (without building new houses and mostly getting around on bike so as not to ruin pristine yada.) Having cake and eating it. Either finding a cabin or retiring along the big lake. Seriously, it is a magical place just a couple hours from Mpls and about 5 driving hours from Fort.

It is impossible for me to fully express all the feels I'm feeling at leaving Fort Atkinson. I've been here, in the house on Main Street, since 1994. But the wheels are in motion, so I guess I'm moving.

Reinvention vs. Community
Freedom vs. Roots
Adventure vs. Security

I hope to come down regularly, roads permitting, because I miss you all already, especially my kids and sibs, Walt, my knight in welded armor, and Kitticus, the Wise Oracle. Leaving my people here is the hard part. Duh.  So, let's not "leave" each other. Let's just reconfigure how we are together. C'mon  and Zoom.  Pick up the phone.  And come see me! Maybe I'll start posting on ye olde Facebook again?

I'll email again when I have an address. I'll be done with work this Friday. Hope to arrange a kayak or bike-ice cream trek with all before I go.

Does anyone have any boxes?

Love, from my real heart,

Bethsy

P.S. please look after Ernie

Beth,

What a gain for Ashland County and a loss for our area. I am quite certain you will be working to make Ashland County  a better place to live and it’s citizens more responsible citizens of this earth.

Personally my wife Peggy and I are now vacationing at Loon Lake, MN which is at the far NW end of the Gunflint Trail.

The new Lake Mills  Market makes cartons available for free at the exit of their store. If you need a two wheel hand truck, a furniture dolly, or straps for lifting large objects I have these to lend.

Carl and Peggy

Tyler, I'm replying publicly as you had replied all.

Just want people who may not know, to be made aware of the times Tyler Sailsbery, of The Black Sheep Restaurant down in Whitewater, among other ventures, said YES whenever Cynthia Holt and I asked him to volunteer to help launch some farm-to-school initiative that needed a restauranteur to make it work.  He was absolutely tireless, donated both his mad talents for cooking and the ingredients, and would teach elementary students, parents and teachers, about great food and the meaning and value of eating local. He and his staff literally donated hundreds of hours to schools to try to improve the health and freshness of lunches, to encourage gardening, and to share the joy of cooking.  Tyler had the perfect touch with students and held them spellbound.

Anyway, because of this and many other ventures, I know Tyler to be one of these chefs-cooking-to-bring-the-world-to-a-better place.  Support his ventures (and try his mousse.) So delicious! In time of COVID and afterwards, remember to support local growers, food, and restaurants. I wonder if I could get that mousse delivered to Ashland? Mmm,

Beth
