Hello All,

Hope you are doing well. 

Some personal news I am going to share with everyone. This will be my last two weeks here at Jays Journal. I want to thank everyone, especially Chris, for all of your hard work and for helping JJ become the site it has turned into since I started writing here in 2019. We do many great things as a team and it will be great to see what you all do moving forward. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or Chris or feel free to message me on Twitter.

That being said, tonight is the Rule 5 Deadline so there will be lots to write about. I have carried the topics over from the last thread for anybody interested.

  1. Should the Blue Jays explore signing Chris Bassitt even though he is tied to a QO?
  2. Can the Blue Jays afford to lose their second-highest pick and $500K of intl signing bonus pool to go after a QO free agent given their farm system?
  3. Three pitchers to sign not named Justin Verlander
  4. Should the Jays bring back Jackie Bradley Jr. as a bench outfield option?
  5. Jays are tied to Andrew Heaney. Why the Blue Jays should or should not pursue him (will need lots of stats and information to back this up)
  6. Once the deadline passes tomorrow, if somebody wants to do an analysis on players left off the 40-man roster who could be picked up from other teams via the Rule 5 Draft
  7. Former Blue Jays that are featured on the contemporary era ballot for the HOF 
  8. Former Blue Jays that are currently free agents

Wow, end of an era, we'll miss you, Tyson, but appreciate all that you've done and I'm sure you have some exciting things coming up.

Thanks Evan, especially for jumping on it so quickly. 

The only thing (and a general note for everyone) is that Fansided doesn't like us to use stuff like "Breaking news!", so I had to take that out of there. Otherwise it was well done and appreciated.

I’d like to write something about the Teo trade. I know there were a couple that ran today. I was thinking something like this trade incensed some fans but it’s actually pretty even and part of a bigger plan with other moves to come. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the kind words Nick. I suspect I will lose access to the editing page once tomorrow rolls around, but I did get your article posted just now. 

I just heard back from someone at Fansided about what will happen from here now that Tyson and I's time has come to an end. Here's the response I received: 

"From what I understand, there is a potential candidate that our team is talking to but I don't believe we are prepared to have someone step in and take over as of tomorrow. Kurt (once he's back from his vacation this week) and Josh Paredes will help oversee things in the interim so that the remaining contributors are not left without any point of contact."


I suspect that Kurt will reach out sometime next week to give you all more instruction, or perhaps you'll hear from Josh Paredes before then, but I'm afraid that's all I know at this point.

Hello all,

Many of you may not know me, but I was a previous Site Expert here at Jays Journal many moons ago and now direct the Recruiting/Onboarding team here at FanSided. 

I wanted to jump in and say thank you to both Tyson and Chris. They've continued a strong tradition of excellent stewards for Jays Journal and have been amazing parts of the FanSided MLB team for years. We are greatly appreciative of their efforts and dedication, and are sad to see them stepping down. Their shoes will be tough to fill, indeed. I join the rest of you in wishing them nothing but the best in their new journeys!

To echo what Chris shared above, we are actively looking for someone new to keep Jays Journal successful and a leader in Blue Jays coverage. We are actively speaking to candidates now and hope to have a resolution in place at some point next week when Kurt returns from vacation. In the meantime, we will have people available to edit articles for you all. As I'm dialed into this group (I was the one who created it, which is why I still have access), please feel free to continue to pitch your topics to the team here and let us know when something is ready to be edited. Likewise, you can email me directly at kyle.f...@fansided.com or Josh Paredes at josh.p...@fansided.com. Josh will likely be the one to edit anything submitted this week, as he has experience in Voltax, and then Kurt will take that on upon his return until we have a replacement.

Hi, could I write on a potential trade package for Pirates CF Bryan Reynolds, who has requested a trade? 

He’s a switch hitting CF who could move Springer to RF, thereby solving for two major offseason requirements. He’s got pop from the left side of the plate, with 14 doubles, 4 triples and 20 HRs to go with a slash line of .258/.345/.469/.815 as a LHH.

In other words, he’s exactly what the Blue Jays need.

Good Morning Team,

I hope you all had a great weekend!

I wanted to take a moment to gauge the team's interest in moving this group from a Google Group to Slack. Most of our FanSided sites now utilize Slack, and it would save the mess of trying to change the topic of the submission email every week or so. It'll also be a cleaner transfer when we make a change with site experts.

If this works for the team, I can get invites sent out soon.

Sorry, I guess Kurt has sent out invites already to join a Slack channel. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
