Hey Gang,

Thought I would set up a new thread as the other one is about to expire. Currently, we have 31 articles and are just over 500K views which is fantastic to see! I know topics are tough to come by now, but let's keep on plugging away and see if we can crack the 100 article month and finish first amongst the FanSided MLB rankings.

I have attached some topic ideas below similar to the previous threads to help get the juices going. As always, feel free to submit your own ideas.

Research required (most likely fit for slideshows):
- Highest drafted (late rounds) Blue Jays prospects to make the active roster (drafted by a certain GM, history, feel free to expand)
- Looking at the 2021 drafted prospects and how they finished out the campaign
- Former prospects who are currently MiLB free agents
- 3/5 of the worst contracts/trades given out by AA or Ross Atkins
- Projecting the 2022 opening day roster
- 3/5 players on the roster bubble for 2022
- Ranking the free agents the Blue Jays should go after once the CBA is in place
- Trade packages for Randal Grichuk
- 3/5/7 minor league free agents to consider bringing to Spring Training
- All players currently without a contract and arbitration-eligible (under old CBA)
-3/5/7 players the club should avoid in free agency
- 3/5/7 players you wish the club would have signed and were rumoured in the mix for
- 3/5/7 biggest trade chips on the Blue Jays
- Where the current 40 man roster all came from (drafted, traded, signed, etc)
- How certain players evolved through the Blue Jays system (similar to Matt H's article on Bo Bichette)
- Who should round out the Blue Jays bench?

Opinion Pieces (varied opinions can lead to topics being covered more than once):

- Who will reach the Majors first, Zach Logue or Bowden Francis?
- Who should back up Vladdy at first base this season?
- Blockbuster trade scenarios using the Baseball Trade Evaluator
- Should George Springer continue being the leadoff hitter?
- Predicting how many games a healthy George Springer will play in this season
- How the lockout is impacting the Blue Jays (players cannot train at Dunedin, signing players, trading)
- How a healthy David Phelps could bring change to the Blue Jays relief corps
- Could the Blue Jays have brought back Robbie Ray or Marcus Semien?
- How an increased salary cap in a new CBA could impact the Blue Jays
- Will Alejandro Kirk steal the starting role? Impact with Moreno coming up?
- Could the club use Jordan Groshans as trade bait with Orelvis Martinez coming up the system?
- Could Kevin Smith find himself being the starting third baseman?

As always, Chris and I are here if you need anything.

Hi,
I was thinking about doing a list of some potential guys to fill out the rotation and how the Jays could acquire them. Guys like Marquez, Gray/Castillo, Kikuchi. Let me know what you think.

Henry.

Sounds good Henry. The only thing I'd say is to make sure you see if you can find any updated info on each situation. For example, I feel like I recall the Rockies saying Marquez isn't going anywhere, but that could have changed more recently.

I would highly encourage you to look up his previous stats hitting lead off before joining the Jays especially the analytics side. Some people love Springer in that spot and will fight to keep him there as Chris mentioned lol

Hey team,

Just wanted to take a quick second to thank you all for a job well done lately on the stuff I've been reading and editing. I don't say that kinda thing enough, but there have been some quality articles submitted, and some clear efforts to follow the formatting and whatnot. It's all very much appreciated, and like I said, I don't say it as much as I should.

Hope you're all doing well, and as always, reach out if we can help at all.

Cheers!

Was looking at doing two articles over the next few days.  Blue Jays prospects that had better careers once they became free agents and left, and then the same but traded.

Evening everyone,

Kind of a prevalent topic right now, but I was wondering if I could write a piece on how mental health is important in sports and just kind of making an effort of ending the stigma against talking about it. I would frame it in Blue Jays lens as I would mention players who’ve had challenges relayed to  mental health in the past and have worked to overcome it. If you have any advice on how to work this that’d be great! Thanks guys

You open to trying second base instead? Not nearly as much covered on that

Afternoon everyone,

Last week brought in just under 350K views and we finished second in the MLB division, 1000 back behind another site.

This is awesome to see and one of the clear takeaways is that the slideshows are bringing in some huge views. Congrats to both Zach and Henry, as both of you had articles that ranked in the top ten for views across MLB Fansided last week. Well done!

I would like to touch on slideshow format just a bit, as they are one of our more popular content models at the moment. FanSided will not let Chris or I submit a slideshow for publication unless it meets the following criteria:

  1.  Three or more slides
  2. First slide = 300+ words; Every other slide: 250+ words
  3. Pictures centred and medium sized at the start of each slide (right after the next slide shortcode)
These are important to remember as Chris and I will have to bounce back articles for more words, as we generally like the contributors to be adding to the article rather than one of us add filler. There are websites like Word counter or Microsoft word that can be a great double check for you before submitting, as this makes sure there are no delays in posting. Sometimes if your intro is on the smaller side, feel free to add your first player/arguement in with your intro slide and then move onto the next slide featuring number two player/arguement.

I will send an updated player/idea sheet later tonight if you’re looking for ideas and always Chris and I are here if you need anything.

Tyson

Has Jays Journal ever done a March Madness type of article?

I'm thinking you take the biggest moments in Blue Jays history and bracket them up. I don't think there is 64 but i'm sure as a group we can come up with 16 and pair them off with each other.

I'm thinking of match ups like:

Bautista vs Encarnacion- who had the bigger home run?

Vlad Guerrero's 2021 season vs Carlos Delgado's 2000 season

Am I out to lunch? What do you guys think?

Zach - sure can but be warned you might get a bunch of “we don’t even know when opening day is” comments

Brent - think we’d need a bit more context with this one, only because it seems like it would be a wicked project but would be one that needs to be planned out.
