Good Evening Everyone!

The trade deadline is right around the corner and with the All-Star festivities just about over, it is going to be a busy end of month!

Those of you looking to gain some views and write some articles, this is one of the busiest times of the year. We are currently sitting at around 50 articles on the month and with a couple strong weeks, we can easily get to 100!

Could I write about how the Jays draft signals likely trades of a bunch of infield prospects for relief help by the trade deadline?

They used three of their top four picks (in the top eighty picks of the 2022 draft) on middle infielders. 

Bo, Espy and Cavan are already blocking Martinez, Groshans, Lopez, Jimenez, Hiraldo, Beltre, Machado, De Castro and Samad Taylor, ie. nine of the top 16 prospects in the farm system are already middle infielders. 

There isn’t a single natural OF in their top twenty prospects. 

And Ricky Tiedemann appears to be the only legitimately projectable MLB talent amongst the pitching prospects.

Perhaps the explanation for this odd draft strategy is that they plan to trade a bunch of those top infield prospects for relief help at the TDL?

Can I write about how after a day off tomorrow, the Jays will get to play against a severely depleted St. Louis Cardinals team that will be without All-Stars Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado, and catcher Austin Romine because of their vaccine status?  

They will also be without starting pitchers Steven Matz (left MCL tear, just placed on the 15-day IL again today), Dakota Hudson and Jack Flaherty, as well as former closer Alex Reyes, catcher Yadier Molina and OFs Harrison Bader and Juan Yepez, who are all on the IL.

As far as I can see four players (Borucki, Heineman, Romo and Katoh) have played games for the Blue Jays and moved on out the organization.  I was just looking at a quick piece about where they are now and what they are doing.  You good with that?

Views are at an all-time high right now with the trade deadline around the corner. Let’s pack every day and anybody willing to write will benefit from how much activity will be going on in terms of view counts.

That being said, news articles on trades will be first come first serve in this chat thread only. We want to be quick on these news articles so if you claim, it would be great to get them in within the next couple of hours. If nobody claims within that time, either Chris or I will write on it.

Just because the news piece is done doesn't mean you still can't write on the subject, as there are lots of angles to take:

  1. evaluating the return package 
  2. Is player X the right fit?
  3. Pros and cons of adding Player X
  4. The long term picture of adding player x
  5. Should they have traded for someone else?

You can, but take a quick look at these articles as well to make sure it’s a bit different. You can cover the pitchers but I’d maybe mix it up a bit and definetly provide different analysis.

Tigers just selected the contract of former Jay Derek Law. Can I write on the implications for the Jays who should be adding some of their veteran bullpen arms before Detroit leaves town tomorrow? 

MLBTR notes the Tigers are temporarily working with an extra spot on the 40-man roster, as reliever Andrew Chafin is on the restricted list for this weekend’s series against the Jays. 

The Tigers will need to clear a roster spot to reinstate Chafin on Monday, but it’s very possible they make a trade that subtracts someone from the major league roster within the next two days. The bullpen is sure to see a few departures, with Chafin himself, and other veterans Michael Fulmer and Joe Jiménez among Detroit’s top trade candidates.

Yankees get Montas. Can I write about how the Jays have lost momentum with a poor trade deadline so far? Sounds like they’re not a Soto finalist, Ohtani is staying in LA, and the two best available starting pitchers are now off the board.

Happy trade deadline day!

As a reminder, any news articles on deals must be submitted to the group chat here and approved by Chris or I. These are time sensitive, so please ensure you are able to cover a news piece quickly and submit quickly if you claim.

Some other ground rules:

  1.  just because a news piece gets covered does not mean the idea is gone. Analysis pieces always do well on the hype of a news deal, so don’t be concerned if the news piece is covered already and just switch your idea/topic to be from an analytical standpoint
  2. Be wary of fake accounts tweeting out inaccurate news. Always make sure it is sourced accordingly. 

That being said, let’s crank out some articles and have a great day! Hopefully the Blue Jays make some moves.

Yeah, to be fair, Groshans' stock has fallen a lot over the last few years. I'm surprised he's still a top 100 prospect to be honest.

Ugggh. The Phillies got David Robertson for Ben Brown, only their 25th ranked prospect!

Robertson has 14 saves and a 2.23 ERA in high leverage innings, not the fifth inning in a blowout like Bass, who has blown all seven of his save opportunities since 2021.
