Hi Jaspar team,

I'm currently using JASPAR matrices for my project, and I had a couple of questions about the COMPILED data type and some matrices that don’t list a clear source.

I was wondering:
  1. How are the COMPILDE matrices generated? Is there a specific algorithm used to combine data from different sources?
  2. For matrices that don’t show a specific data type or experimental source, is there a way to trace where the data originally came from?

I’ve checked the metadata sheet but didn’t find this information, so I wanted to ask directly.
Thanks so much for your time, and for maintaining JASPAR!

Best,
Maggie

Dear Maggie.

Thanks for your question and your interest in JASPAR.

The matrices generated from compiled data were usually built from multiple papers about 15-20 years ago. For the matrices missing the data type, they were also generated a long time ago. In both cases, we unfortunately do not have a way to track back the original data used. We are sorry about it.
