AGM - Election of Committee of Management

Dear Members, 

Attached herewith is a notice issued by the COM of JARA on Election of Members to the Executive Committee - particularly, President and Secretary. I shall explain the circumstances leading to issue of this notice. 

This Association is a democratic set up much like Indian Democracy. We Indians have, over a period of time, developed the attitude of 'ராமன் ஆண்டாலென்ன, ராவணன் ஆண்டாலென்ன' - a state of total unconcern for the participatory nature of Democracy. We want services - but we should not soil our hands. We should sit at our house and keep issuing commandments - do this, do that, this is not correct, நொள்ளை, சொத்தை etc. Let someone toil to provide me service - I shall relax. 

This mentality of ENTITLEMENT without actually participating and managing the affairs - as demonstrated by we citizens, we do it in running of our Association also. Consequently, once a set of members are inducted into the Executive Committee, there is no possibility in the horizon to replace them by another set of people. 

I have tried any number of years to persuade people to come forward and take the reins in their hands and run the Association so that everyone becomes aware of the problems that are faced on the ground - the reality. 

Having exhausted all the possibilities, the present Executive Committee Members find themselves in the same situation where they will continue in office for eternity. This is not going to work - and should not be allowed to continue. 

In order to stem the rot, the COM has issued this notice. This is not a threat. If in the AGM, a new Executive is not elected, the present incumbents are likely to leave the office and there will be chaos. Then people will realise as to what it means to stay undisturbed with their ENTITLEMENT. 

I urge all the members to please show some consideration for the urgency of the issue and come forward to volunteer in the management of Association. 

Hoping that there will be positive response and not a negative outrage.

Dear Mr. Govindan

Reference to your mail, I would like to state that, that there are instances of even blocking persons who wanted to contest, and the so called committee could not bear questions etc. Even though I wish to contest say mind willing flesh unwilling.  You may try to hand over Association management Manager and there need not be any chaos. This committee has tried to create chaos to silence me and I became subdued due to my son’s persuasion.

Nothing is impossible if we follow principles.

Dear residents, 

Greetings of the Day.

  It would be the bounden duty and responsibility of all of us to attend the forthcoming AGM, in toto.  

Also,  as set out in the circular issued on Attendance of AGM ' that the President and General Secretary  of the current Committee  wish to get relieved, I request more prospective candidates to come forward to provide relief to these ladies,  who  I personally saw,  were  doing exemplary work for the Association  along with other Executive Members. 

Some of the tenants showed their keenness to carry out  COM activities. If JARA decides to amend the Bye law suitably,  we may be able to augment and support with the participation of such willing tenants.  JARA Members may kindly give their opinion on this as tenants also have good number of presence in our apartment.

Dear Shri Govindan and Shri Mohan 

Your intentions are fine. I have expressed my inability to actively participate has been stated in my earlier mails.

The attitude has to change and no youngsters who are already burdened would not offer their services due to their work tension and their observation during past years caution them.

In my case, once remarked that there are no sponsors and I sponsored my self for Delta membership in a letter addressed to all. I challenge and if I want can contest and win.

Second the attitude of this existing committee in my opinion and was guided by their own principles which is in my opinion that block members are just “YES” members.  Your voice is never heard, if heard and accepted, job is not done and on insistence’s VETOED.

I just asked for allocation of job and the President referred to VP and he frowned which meant we can manage.

When I insisted following rules I was snubbed and said they need PEASE.

All of you are aware I am fighting a loosing battle with COM on certain issues and nothing could be done.

Now my age and health tells me be careful and do not get into a muddle.

I will be posting issues not resolved before the meeting or bring in separate resolutions and AGM may accept or reject.

I would have a feeling that I have tried to discharge duties of a member.

Many instances which I do not want to elaborate.

We list all Resident Owners. Split into two categories. Those who were never part of COM and those who were not part of last 2 COM. Print the list and circulate to all the Resident Owners as well as all residents and the new COM will be elected out of the above list. Failure to attend the AGM or not accepting the position will not solve the issues.

This will not include your name as you were not part of COM officially but involved on all aspects.

And in the circular express that Mr. Seshadri along with his son would take up the responsibility as a challenge and make things  100% perfect for JARA and with such a guidance there will not any problem for the incoming COM to manage.

This action may be initiated immediately because all the Resident Owners need to be highlighted again to attend the AGM compulsorily. 

And please note one fact. My wife Mahalakshmi would not attend any call or respond to any one from the next day of AGM except handing over.

Dear Residents, 

Greetings of the Day.

  I do not know how many of JARA residents read the mails posted here.  Kindly ponder over the points raised by some of the members for the last few days along with suggestions for the election of COM in the forthcoming AGM scheduled on 22.4.2018. 

I too have a set of suggestions. Hope you would kindly consider at the AGM. 

1. Let us discuss on the election of new COM first,  as the agenda point instead of making it at the fag end when dark sets in. 

2. Let us discuss the Annual report of 2017-18 without spending time on reading out line by line.  This  puts strain  to the President in reading out.  Only the issues or clarifications as may be sought  by Members or as may be felt by COM that deserve detailed discussion may be deliberated.  

3. Let us make the discussions in the AGM, " issue Centric"  " rather than" Person Centric".  Blame games will never lead to win - win situation. No one is perfect and the COM is doing honarary  service. 

 4. If there are outstanding issues or problems,  it would be better if the Member sits with the COM in JARA office across the table  at least two days before the AGM,  gets the response and brings the outcome of such meeting to the AGM.  This would foster transparency and trust among the residents, either in  Office  or otherwise. 

5. Engaging a Manager to take care of Office Secretarial work and also the Day to day dealings is a very good suggestion.  This merits approval in the AGM at least in principle with detailed scheme of appointing  of Manager being left to the New Com, at the earliest. 

 5. If tenants are willing to volunteer to assist JARA activities let us welcome.  We may need to get opinion from tenants and enlist such of those who are willing to assist.  Perhaps,  we can in principle agree to amend the Bye laws to make provision for this.  They could  be Block  Members to start with. 

6. The Auditor of JARA Accounts,  the contractor managing the STP may also be invited to participate in the AGM so that they can offer explanations that might be required at AGM. . 

6. Sembakkam Municipality Circular on disposal of biodegradable wastes need a careful approach.  Let us not over- react to such a circular as  most of the other apartments are cool on this matter.  This is a overall civic problem and let us address it appropriately but not hurriedly.  

7. Hope AGM will be successful with constructive thoughts, warm personal relationships and positive resolutions.
