Hi all,

As requested a made a JAL library for the Si5351a clock generator module. It was quite a challenge and up to know the most complex library I created.

But effort pays off since the library has some interesting features.

If you want to know more, read the blog post: http://www.justanotherlanguage.org:3389/node/323

I added it to GitHub so it should be in one of the new bee-packages.

I am looking for somebody that would like to test it since I could not test the higher (> 100 MHz) frequencies because of the limitations of my oscilloscope.

Thanks.

Kind regards,

Rob

Very good Rob,

Pictures and some video would be nice to see :)

Hi Rob, good job!
20 years ago having a 100MHz oscilloscope was a luxury.
One relatively simple solution to "see" 225MHz on 100MHz analog scope is to manufacture a mixer connected in one input with your unknown frequency and at the other input with a reference frequency. At the mixer output you'll have both the Fx+Fref and Fx-Fref. You can see on the scope the Fx-Fref.  Of course you may buy a new scope or a spectrum analyzer which is not extremely expensive nowadays.

Hi Matt,

Thanks. I could make a video of the signal on my oscilloscope but am not sure if it would clarify anything.

I could also upload some screenschots of the signal since I can make screenshots with my oscilloscope.

Do you think it will add something to the blog post?

Kind regards,

Rob

Hi VSurducan,

Thanks for the hint. My cheapest option is to visit my brother. He seems to have an oscilloscope that goed up to 200 MHz.

I have no plans for that yet so maybe in the mean time if somebody is using the library with a frequency above 150 MHz it would be good to know if it works OK.

Kind regards,

Rob

Hi Matt,

I made a video for the Si5351a JAL Library and added the link the video to the blog post.

The video shows some randomly chosen frequencies and uses the sample program 16f18857_si5351.jal for this. Using a terminal emulation program, you just enter the frequency in Hz and the library will configure the chip as to generate the chosen frequency.

As mentioned before I cannot demonstrate a frequency higher than 100 MHz.

Demo of the JAL library for the Si5351a clock generator chip using the sample program provided with the JAL library and showing some randomly selected freque...

Enjoy.

Kind regards,

Rob

Hi Rob, Great video demonstration, thanks!

I think pictures or video are a must for any blog.

Looks good Rob. I have a breakout board ordered and I'll check it out.

Thanks for all your hard work.
