Hello all,
Another question from an old man.
Years ago I made a device that works with an atmel 328. I have the hex file and I could set the fuses with the program PONYprog. I made a small circuit for charging. That combination worked fine on my Windows XP, but not on my current Windows 10. The case is also no longer supported by the builders of Pony.
I have now purchased a programmer USBasp and the program Microchip Studio. Unfortunately, getting the case to work for me is very complicated. My question :
Does anyone of you have experience with this and where can I find a step by step description.
regards
Hans

Fast answer, inside LunaAVR product (Luna Studio for AVR), you have a avrdude graphical interface...

Also, here you have a GUI for avrdude (you can use an Arduino as an ISP programmer - it is a ino sketch delivered with arduino)

Video tutorial as how you use an Arduino as a programmer:

 Hi Hans

The Atmega328 is made by Atmel.

Arduino has boards with the Atmega328..

Maybe that forum can help you.

Kindly regards,

Peter

One old laptop with win7 + one old and well known programmer?
Or pickit4 and a bunch of money.

I've been honoring an XP and the ancient Pony program for a long time, but the XP has given up the ghost. The Lunaavr program always indicates that it cannot find an avr config while everything is in the total folder. According to the builder, he has no more time to make an update... so

AFIK pony works ok on Win7. Serial programmer which steals energy from RS232 port works OK on any computer with true RS232 interface. Perhaps an old $30 single core computer?

If you can borrow an Arduino or make an effort to buy one, it will serve you well as a programmer, not only for AVRs, but also for the most recent PICs (not all but a huge chunk of new ones, starting from pic12 to pic18) and you can use it from Linux. Is even simpler than using a pickit clone...

This project could even be maintained by Jallib :P

Hi Vasi,
I went back to an old windows 7 PC and that solved this problem with Pony.
