Good morning,

I’d like to merge an enhancement into the jacoco repository. The suggested enhancement enables writing out a text file containing the code coverage ratio. This ratio can then be reviewed as part of a CI pipeline. (The proposed changes have been added to a forked repository which we have been successfully utilising for almost a year now).

In terms of next steps, I’d like to raise an enhancement request but this message serves to hopefully enable discussion on the proposed enhancement. Could I kindly ask for people’s thoughts on this?

Kind Regards,

Stuart Lewis

Hi Stuart,

thanks for your proposal and for discussing it here at the mailing list. Some random remarks and questions:

  • We already have three reporting formats (HTML, XML, CSV), this would probably another reporting format in TXT format.
  • I wonder what the exact format and content would be.
  • We have various coverage metrics and different users may have different requirements. So we probably need some config options.
  • We already have the machine readable XML report. With tools like xmllint you can extract whatever information you need into an text file.
  • What specific tool in the CI pipeline would consume this file?

Cheers,
-marc

Hi Marc, Evgeny,

Apologies for the late reply. I just wanted to thank you both for your responses. We've been able to move forwards with the machine readable XML report.

Best Regards,
Stuart

I’m glad to hear that the XML report works for you.

Thanks for the feedback,
-marc
