jacoco output file has nothing when run inside docker container

Hi All,

Im running jacocoagent.jar inside docker contanier by passing JAVA_OPTS options. Everything is fine except for the part that im not able to generate output file for execution data. I see the file getting generated but its blank. Nothing is present in the file.

Command: java -javaagent:/appl/si/resources/jacocoagent.jar=append=true,output=file,destfile=/appl/si/resources/jacoco.exec -jar linkage.jar

This runs inside the docker container and i see the file "jacoco.exec" getting generated but with size 0. 

Anybody knows what is wrong in the approach i have choosen?

ls -lrt:

-rwxrwxrwx.  1 root root     281427 Apr 23 12:02 jacocoagent.jar

-rw-r--r--.       1 root 40002         0   Apr 27 12:50 jacoco.exec

Hi Mandrikov,

I was able to generate report. But when i copied the dump file "jacoco.exec" from the docker container 

and ran below command in my windows laptop against my project to generate code coverage report:

java -jar libs/jacococli.jar report jacoco.exec --classfiles target/classes/com --sourcefiles src/main/java/ --html code-coverage-report

I see the report for all the classes shows coverage as 0% which is not correct.

Please let me know what is wrong here? How can i generate the report using dump file copied from docker container?

Anybody has any idea why this is not working. I want some pointers to see what im doing differently than others. Im running agent inside the docker container to get the dump and im running the cli jar in my windows laptop where my project is checked out to generate code coverage report.

Please let me know if anybody has any ideas.

when you click on the “Sessions” link in the top right corner of the html report. What do you see here?

* Are your classes under test listed?

* Do the class names have links?

I see the classes listed in the "Sessions" but what i dont see is the link to the classes. Is it something to worry? When this can happen?

I Marc,

I see the classes have links as soon as i open the index.html file. But coverage data shows 0% for most of the classes even though i know it is being called.

Why does a class show as not covered although it has been executed?

First make sure execution data has been collected. For this select the Sessions link on the top right corner of the HTML report and check whether the class in question is listed. If it is listed but not linked the class at execution time is a different class file. Make sure you're using the exact same class file at runtime as for report generation. Note that some tools (e.g. EJB containers, mocking frameworks) might modify your class files at runtime. Please see the chapter about class ids for a detailed discussion.

Hi Amit,

Are you able to generate the coverage metrics ? Even, I did end-up in not generating the metrics using Jacoco. The report gets generated, and if i click on sessions link which goes to classes and binary ID. However, the classes does not have the link to see the coverage metrics.

Did you follow any changes to reflect the coverage ?
