Hi guys
I‘m thinking about switching away from the furler and moving my jib tack down to deck level for racing.
Any experience and photos of boats sailing without the jib furler? Does bolting down a padeye just behind the forestay need any reenforcement down below?
Looking forward to your input.
Cheers. Phil

There may well be another hole in the forestay attachment fitting on the stem. Usually two, one for the stay and one for the jib tack.

Hi Phil

For racing we never use the furler. I take it off in racing season and put it back on in cruising season.
I tack on deck pad eye.

Hi Mark.
Where did you install the padeye?
Can you show a photo, please?
Did you do any reinforcement below deck?

We have a pad eye on Jazz which we use for our full batten jib, but when short handed we quickly bolt on the drum for the furling jib.
I reinforced the deck under, but we also have a stainless D ring at the bottom of the forestay connector that works even better than the pad eye
