My current #3 is set up for the furler with vertical battens.  I am planning to have horizontal batten pockets added to it (its a fairly new sail) so we can go both ways with the sail, depending on what we're doing between cruising, buoy racing, and offshore.  It occurred to me that it may just be easier to find a 2nd #3 set up that way or that can be converted to hank on to an inner stay so I wanted to reach out to this group to see if anyone has anything collecting dust but in ok condition they would be willing to part with.  I don't have a new one these in the budgetary plan for another couple of seasons but want to try to fill the gap sooner if I can.

Thanks for your help as I prep for the 2026 Newport to Bermuda race.

We had a #3 made and it had vertical battens so we could furl it.  Used it once and figured out that taking it down was a PAIN. I can't even imagine what it would be like trying to take handle it on the foredeck when we only use the foil (no furler).  I had the loft convert it to horizontal battens so we can flake the sail from the leech.  Should be a little more manageable.  We'll see this spring.

Glad to see you're back double handing.  My double handed owner sold the 124 and has an XP44 now. I entered our J42, but with crew.  Did M2B last year and did well.

After all of the back and forth, it found a lightly used hank on J3 that I can run on my inner forestay and save the vertical batten J3 for cruising.  For short handed distance racing the verdict is to be able to shift gears from a big genoa to a small genoa (and the reverse) quickly and painlessly.  The Heavy #1 can furl on the headstay easily when we start getting overpowered on the breeze and can unfurl with the J3 hanked on the inner forestay but on deck pretty easily.  We will see how it goes.
