Last year I asked the group where to source a replacement gooseneck for my J-42 Anoria. The neck had a significant crack in it.

Thankfully, Mike Arntz (J/42 Bolero) suggested I contact Cara Read at Newport Rigging Company.  Cara sent me a replacement for $275. You can reach her at

She was terrific and very responsive!

Hello J/42 skippers,   I just like to confirm,  this goose neck crack issue is only on  J/42 with the carbon rig?     I"m aluminum and I'm not seeing anything,  so I am just wondering if this knuckle is different or is it the same?

thanks,

Dennis

I think you’re referring to the cast aluminum toggle, now being replaced with milled stainless discussed in this thread? Or is it milled aluminum?

I've considered ordering up a spare as this could be difficult to source off-shore.  Cast aluminum seems kind of sketchy for such a part.  They’re on aluminum masts too.

Here are two pictures of the part I am referring to.

You can see the long vertical crack we located and the new replacement from Newport Rigging Company. Both are aluminum.

Dennis, my mast is carbon and my boom is aluminum.

Patrick,

Thank you.    The part looks close.    I will be at boat this afternoon, and I will compare your photo to what I have.

I have an aluminum spar and experienced the severe gooseneck crack on my J42. Not restricted to just carbon spars. Replaced with new milled aluminum gooseneck.

Thanks all.   I looked at my hard,  looks good.   but I think I will go ahead and order one.    One less thing to worry about.
