What are most of you guys getting for PHRF handicaps?

Mine has recently dropped from 99 to 90 by our local raters. Apparently based on LI Sound numbers?

After a tough three days of racing in St. Augustine we are wondering how we go to this new number. As subjective as they are...

I have a J40 with a 5' "UFO" keel.

I just wondered what we are typically seeing on the water.

Thanks
Graeme

I have a standard draft J40: 2021 PHRF-NE rating is 78 racing /90 jib and main  78 is with the symmetric spinnaker and I replaced the rod rigging with wire.  6 seconds a mile seems like a pretty steep hit, but Ill see how much faster the symmetric is vs the asymm.
Last year the PHRF-NE was 84/96 with a bow tacked masthead assym.

In the southern Chesapeake, mine is 93, with roller furler, down from 96 due to “synthetic sails”

I have a related question. I completed an application to have our J40 rated for phrf New England but I never heard anything back. Anyone know how I can contact them to see about where our application stands in the process?

go to the phrf ne website and pull up your certificate application.  Which fleet are you in?  It should say who your handicapper is and their email so you can poke them.

78!!

Wow, that seems really low.

A local J105 was given a very low PHRF and when questioned they said they made a mistake...

I can win line honors but a win on PHRF is another story...

Thanks

Yes.  78 is insane. Ill need to remove 400lbs of cruising and creature comfort gear to have a hope with that one... Our weds night series in Boston Harbor is scored using ORR-Ez.  Its a bit more fair but I am not sure how it shakes out since we raced PHRF last year.
