Hello all,

Wondering if anyone has removed or modified the teak toe rails on the their J42 or similar.  The aft sections of the rails on my boat are poorly designed since they run way too close to the stanchion bases  - there is also poor drainage.

I'd like to cut out the aft section but wondering what I will find - I'm looking to either finish off the gelcoat or replace with another alternative like a track for variable snatch block placement ( for my very occasional spinnaker use).

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,
James

James,

It wasn't a J/42, but I know one J/30 owner removed the teak toerails from his boat, replacing them with  plastic rails similar to a J/105.   My assumption is that TPI used very similar construction methods for all their boats of that era.  The specific owner is VERY knowledgeable, even running a yacht yard in the Annapolis area.   He said it was a very difficult job and would never do it again, nor recommend anyone else do it.
