Hi Everyone!

Looks like Eversource will be digging Myopia Road and closing it for a few hours in the morning, tomorrow, Wednesday, August 13th.

Not sure what time it will begin and end, so plan accordingly.

Hi Joan,
I wanted to let you know of additional Eversource road closures scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday due to gas service install on Myopia Road. On Wednesday and Thursday the road will be closed while crews are working on different properties. Roads will be available for abutters only. Crews will open the road as soon as it is safe to do so. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

All the best,
Zoë

I understand the need for this project and that the workers just have a job to do. But the complete lack of information from Eversource about where they will be working and when - and specifically when we will be unable to come and go from our driveways - has been frustrating and aggravating to the nth degree. There have been days that I have been unexpectedly trapped in (not even a way for the workers to let me by) and days I have left and been unable to get home (less an issue) or other service companies have been unable to get to my house (which I would have rescheduled had I known they couldn’t get here). Does anyone know who at Eversource can address this communication problem?
Thx.
Laurie

Thank you for this, Laurie.
I am feeling the same way as you are. I am wondering if and when they will be digging up my yard, as well as any disruptions to services like my internet as I WFH and need to know to find another way to get online. What little information I could find online was a general announcement for gas-pipe replacements that was to occur in our general area over several months of 2025 and that it would include some service disruptions like the internet etc.
I had a doctor's appointment last week and had no idea the road was closing until that morning and did manage to see what was about to happen and move my car, but not because I was properly informed. Reading the squiggle on a traffic cone notice and trying to decipher what is going to take place and having to guess how it will impact you is not very informative at all. Eversource can do a lot better.

Also, it would be nice if after this was all done we actually got our streets and sidewalks back to normal and paved/fixed. And, if dreams really do come true, speed humps on Myopia (esp. the rotary). But, one wish at a time I suppose.

Best wishes,
Angela

Angela and Laurie, thanks for your comments.
While Eversource digging is underway on Myopia, West Street is being repaved with no notice from the city. People that usually park on the street had some scrambling to do until they are finished.

Zoe, I think we all realize that this is all much needed work to improve our daily lives. Is it possible that the utility companies and the city could provide notice on a more timely basis? Are there protocols in place for notifying residents of work that will be disruptive? While we were informed work would take place, we did not know an estimate of how long the disruption might be or how it might impact our residents.

I will place this as an agenda item for our next neighborhood group meeting in October.

Thanks,

Joan

Hi, all,

They are still working around my neighborhood, not so much on Greenbrook Rd. since they may have finished the gas lines into homes by now but their equipment is still on the street. They claim they still will be doing Child St. soon.

The first letter I got from Eversource back in June was signed by Kyle Gavoni, Eversource Gas Construction Supervisor and he can be reached at 617-688-1629. I did talk to him in the beginning and he said they would be careful to take residents' needs into consideration. Once they started working on my street, I found out who was the on-site person in charge and have had a few conversations with him as things progressed because my daughter and I are in and out with our cars at different times each day. I don't think they ever actually blocked the whole street so we had access from one end or the other as abutters but we still could not park on the street while they were working. They are supposed to check with you if they were about to block your driveway and ask if you needed to move your car.

Julio told me there are other projects going on at the same time which are not even Eversource so everyone is "stepping on everyone's toes". I know someone who works for the water department and he says that happens a lot, that no one seems to be coordinating projects efficiently. I guess that would be the city's responsibility. Julio also said they are under pressure to get things done because after Greenbrook Rd. , there are plans to pave Austin. I think they are already prepping Summer St. and I just went through Cleary Square last night to see prep on Hyde Park Ave. near Dana Ave. where they plan to repave Saturday from 5 AM to 4 PM! Don't go shopping that day!

We have not had any internet disruption here and my daughter works from home, also.

Thank you for passing on this information. But good luck to anyone actually trying to get to Myopia Road, at least if you are trying to get here from the Enneking/Gordon St. side - it is the epitome of "you can't get there from here." Chestnut Street is blocked off from turning left off of Child and Summer Street was barely passable for my car; I don't know how a larger SUV, van, or truck will get through. I have a service call with a plumber some time today and the nice police detail said that he would let them through on Myopia (assuming, of course, it is not completely blocked and unpassable even for abutters, as it often has been without warning) but I'm not even sure they'll be able to get that far. "Detour" signs that are placed merely to indicate a road closure are completely useless when there are no follow-up signs directing how to get back on track. (Oh, and they're working on West Street by McGann playground, so there's that.....) It is completely unreasonable to have so many streets unpassable at the same time without any plan as to how to direct traffic. I understand that this is not all on Eversource but the City knows about the Eversource work and should coordinate any work it is doing to avoid this insanity. Sorry, rant over - now praying I won't get another nasty-gram from another service provider that they could not get to my house for an appointment....

Hello all,
I was notified of another Myopia Road project at 2 homes scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday, August 27th. The first home will allow for the road to remain open in the morning. Crews will need to shut down the road for the second home allowing only abutters to enter the street.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Zoe,

I will work with the project team to get as much advanced notice as possible, however, the work process depends on the homeowner’s availability and oftentimes we don’t find out they’re available until the day before. I have family in JP who recently went through the same process with National Grid, and I understand how inconvenient it can be at times.

For additional context, the gas line they are working from is on the even side of the road, so when they are connecting houses on the even side, they are able to keep a lane of traffic open. It is when they are servicing the odd side of the road that they need to temporarily close the street to trench across it. Next Monday they will be working at 53 and 56 Myopia. I’ve asked that they start with the even side (56) first so that folks can drive past in the morning. Please let me know if there are any other issues moving forward.

Best regards,

Mike
