Good Afternoon!

Wanted to let you all know about this opportunity on Friday.

Age Strong, in partnership with the Mayor's Office of Housing and Boston Public Library, will be hosting a Home Maintenance for Longevity workshop for older adults on Friday, May 9th. The workshop is free and open to the public, and will take place from 10:30 AM to 12 PM at the West Roxbury branch library. At the event, older adults can learn more about how to reduce maintenance costs on their homes, so that they can age safely in place. I have attached the flyer for the workshop in JPG. For more info contact Sophia Wang (she/her/hers) Partnership Coordinator | Age Strong Commission Boston City Hall, 1 City Square, Room 271, Boston, MA 02201 | www.boston.gov/agestrong The city publishes numerous special interest newsletters ranging from the arts to senior issues (like this event) and many more. Does anyone know a reasonably priced tree removal person? If so, could you send me the name and contact info?
Thanks,
Pat Alvarez

Hi Pat,

My next door neighbor and I used these folks to take down a pesky tree that was bordering our properties:

Vieira Landscape Construction & Maintenance
Rosenvaldo Vieira 617.852.7919

They were respectful of our properties, cut down the tree, put it through a mulcher and cleaned up after themselves. They did not remove the stump.

Everybody is expensive and I think it depends on the size of the tree.

Good luck!!!

Joan

Hi, Pat,

My neighbors and I did some tree work last summer. Some of it was trimming. I had a large maple removed also. We interviewed Arborway Tree Care in Hyde Park at 617-522-6071 and Boston Tree Company. See in...@bostontree.com or 781-444-1223. They were both very knowledgeable but we all went with Boston Tree Co. at about half the price of Arborway. For the most part it went well. We had booked all our work for 3 houses at the same time but mine caused some delays. There was a hornets nest in the tree to be pruned so we ultimately waited till fall when they were gone. They took down my other tree for $1300 with stump grinding at $250. They had to wait a bit for stump grinding till the machine was made available. I had to call back to make sure the grinding was properly removed. There was a LOT of sawdust.

However, I seem to be stuck in limbo now. I had made some contact this year because I see some tree roots above ground that need to be ground up in order to do a proper care of the lawn. Some of it was from the removed tree and I would have thought that would have been done last year also, even though it was more of an extension of the stump. When I did reach John Garrant (617-590-1154), he asked me to send him pictures in order to do an estimate and we seem to have lost contact. I don't know if I sent that text properly but I also called and left him a message. I need to do that again.

They will all tell you they are getting busy now but good luck!

Kathy
