Project Description:
The Application Infrastructure Engineering (AIE) team is responsible for providing PaaS to Best Buy D&T teams to spin up sandbox environments of their applications for development and early testing purpose. Currently we are working to rearchitect our PaaS from private cloud network to AWS. In this exciting and fast-paced role you will help us in our move to AWS cloud in a DevOps culture. You will work closely within the Development and Operations organizations to support the design, automation, and deployments of applications and infrastructure. You should have technical experience in building infrastructure and applications for scalability, resiliency, availability, and recovery. A key portion of your job will be to help move from a private cloud infrastructure deployment model to an infrastructure as code model with automation and monitoring.
Position Summary/Job Description:
· Deliver Cloud infrastructure strategies aligned with business objectives with a focus on Cloud migrations
· Provide thought leadership in infrastructure migration methodologies and techniques including mass application movements into the cloud including:
o Design, implement and support of infrastructure as code
o Research new cloud technologies and prototype solutions that can be leveraged to decrease costs and increase performance
o Assess and compare cloud native PaaS with cloud-enabled traditional infrastructure
o Practice cloud computing best practices and technology to drive cloud adoption
· Design of cloud infrastructure with a focus on AWS using industry best practices
· Provide code reviews of team members work.
· Participate in agile activities (daily standups, backlog refinement, iteration planning, retrospectives, etc.)
· Contribute to team’s backlog by creating stories and defects as they arise
· Take ownership of assigned tasking
What are the top five skills and number of years of experience required to perform this job?
· 5+ years of experience with migration from private to public cloud
· 5+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, ELB, Cloud Formation, S3, IAM, RDS, SNS, etc.)
· 1+ years of experience developing and maintaining infrastructure as code, ideally using Terraform
· Experience with server-side technologies such as Apache, NodeJS, HaProxy, Tomcat & Jboss
· Chef/Ansible
What are some preferred/nice to have skills the manager is looking for?
· Experience with container orchestration systems (OpenShift, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS)
· Database administration experience like MySQL, Cassandra & Oracle
· Experience with messaging infrastructure like IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka
· Used Maven to build, run and create JARs and WAR files among other uses
· Experience with Linux-based operating system configuration, automation and management
· Experience with monitoring and analytical tools (Dynatrace, Splunk)
· Certificate Management (client certificates, server certificates, certificate authorities, etc.)
· DNS management (PDNS and Route53 experience)
· Shell scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
· Excellent technical analysis and problem-solving skills
· Exceptional communication, documentation and reporting skills
