According to the information from this link https://irods.org/download/, the iRODS Server can only be installed on CentOS 7 or on Ubuntu 16 or on Ubuntu 18 Operating System. It is the same also for iRODS iCommands. (I hope that link is updated)

For Testing I installed iRODS Server on CentOS 7 and this is working fine so far. But now I would like to install iRODS server for the production system.
After reading that the end of life of CentOS 7 is June 30, 2024, I wonder if it makes sense to install the iRODS server for production on CentOS 7. I think, after that date (June 30, 2024), the iRODS server installed on CentOS 7 will be affected. Is it possible to install iRODS server on CentOS 8?  If this is possible, I think, this would be better, instead of installing iRODS on CentOS 7.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Kind Regards,
Jana

Hello Jana,

We are planning for a CentOS8-compatible release for 4.3.0 - which is currently planned for 2022Q1.  We will be testing with AlmaLinux 8 and Rocky Linux 8.

I recommend the current iRODS 4.2.11 on CentOS7 until the upgrade to iRODS 4.3.0 is available.

Terrell

Hi Terrell,

In this conversation I read that you have planned the release of irods version 4.3.0 in Q1: “…We are planning a CentOS8 compatible release for 4.3.0 – which is currently planned for 2022Q1. ...". Did you manage to release it? Or do you maybe have a new plan regarding the release time? I would like to know this because I also want to use irods 4.3 on CentOS8. Thanks.

Regards,
Mary

It is not released yet - but we're very close.

You can build the main branch at this time, and it will report itself as 4.3.0.
