April 5 200k Route Review Notes

All,

Yesterday I did a pre-ride of the sat. 200k route to check that everything was clear. Nearly everything was great with one exception: in Wellman at the intersection of 1st Street and 9th Ave SW there is an area that crosses over Smith Creek ...

and it is currently under construction ....

I was able to walk my bike thru as there was a little "earth ramp" there that allows crossing of the creek although I was there on a Sunday and no construction workers were there. 

I don't know what state the site will be in if you were to arrive on this Saturday. Perhaps you will also be able to simply walk thru and resume like I did. I did plot a re-route but it adds 3 miles to the route and involves some compacted, unpaved sections.

I'd recommend checking out the situation of creek crossing at 1st Street and 9th Ave SW in Wellman before switching to take the re-route.

I really got my butt kicked by the wind and cold today. I abandoned at around 106 miles.

Made it home OK catching a ride.
