I’m seeing an issue where my request times out. I think the issue is the URL in the GetCapabilities data. I’m using Pyoos to pull the data.
The URL the GetCapabilities returns to use for GetObservation is: https://ioos-dif-sos-prod.co-ops-aws-east1.net/ioos-dif-sos/SOS however when the GetObservation request is made, it just times out.
If I force the URL to be https://opendap.co-ops.nos.noaa.gov/ioos-dif-sos/SOS, the server returns the requested data.

Just checking to see if anyone else has seen this.

Hi Dan,

I thought I heard that CO-OPS would not be migrating their SOS to their new cloud environment (associated with the first link in your message), but I could have that wrong.  Perhaps someone else who is more familiar with their plans can chime in on why the first link fails.

I don't know how the data coverage compares, but another option would be to look at their ERDDAP services to retrieve station data: https://opendap.co-ops.nos.noaa.gov/erddap/index.html.  IOOS is moving to ERDDAP from SOS.

Or, I believe their custom REST API may be another choice to look into: https://api.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/api/prod/

Ok, thanks Armin, that is helpful!

All,

I had a separate response to Dan. CO-OPS has migrated the SOS services. We are working on a fix for an incorrect URL returned within the SOS GetCapabilities response. This should be updated soon. For now, please just use https://opendap.co-ops.nos.noaa.gov/ioos-dif-sos/SOS URL for any GetObservation or other SOS request.

Thanks.
