Hey Sailors!

Last time was a blast and Half Moon Bay Yacht Club is excited to host another ILCA Team Racing event on Saturday, Aug 23rd. There will be on-water judges to keep things fair and educational!

  • No Team? No Problem! If you're short on teammates or flying solo, register anyway! We'll help assign you to a team.

  • Perfect Venue: Enjoy the flat water conditions of Half Moon Bay harbor – ideal for close and tactical racing.

  • All-Inclusive Fun: Your $25 entry fee gets you a full day of racing, a delicious catered lunch to refuel, and we will also have a great bar for post-race celebrations and debriefs.

  • Boost Your Skills: It's a fantastic opportunity to sail differently, learn the nuances of team racing, and get super sharp on the rules.

I was just on the coast for the Vice Commodore's regatta! Awesome, if you want to save trailering a boat back and forth you can leave it for free at the club over the week if you would like.

Ready to join the fun?

We are having a few technical issues with the sign-up for non-members but it will be open at noon Aug 16th on this registration page.

Best Regards and looking forward to sailing next week,

The Team at Half Moon Bay Yacht Club

Thanks Chris.

A couple more great things about team racing if you’re building your skills.

1) Be at the front of the fleet. If you often find yourself in the back of a fleet race, team racing changes that. Why? Because a 1-2 combo beats anything, and often the top sailor on a team will slow their opponents to spring their slowest teammate into first place, while holding second place for themselves. So you’re suddenly “in the mix”. It’s as is Steph Curry passed you the ball and invited you to take the shot.

2) Lots of learning. HMBYC pairs up sailors that each team has roughly the same mix of skills. Between races, it’s common for teammates to huddle and share tips. This might be sailtrim, boat handling, tactics — but regardless, for a few hours, you have an experienced sailor that wants to everything possible to help you improve. Back to the basketball analogy: it’s like Steph giving you shooting pointers.
