I noticed my name on the story about Greenland earthquakes. Theresa scooped it. I'd like to see the Infobitter who scoops the story (that is, they who post the first fact) get top credit. If the lead fact is by another, then credit that person second. We need both types of contributors. But I think we need people to be on the lookout for breaking news most of all.

Yes, agreed. Although I don't know why your fact is in the #1 place...

I'm on my phone so can't see voting details, but I guess my vote was enough to do that.

That might require a software change. I don't like seeing my bitts poached by someone else. Nor do I want to commandeer someone's bitt when I fix a punctuation mistake in the first fact and put my fact as the new lede.

Definitely it implies a software change.

I don't like replacing somebody else's first fact with mine, just in order to fix their mistake.

But it's misleading to attribute the first fact to someone who didn't write it. So I propose that, when somebody puts in an alternative first fact (and there are at least two people who have extant facts in the bitt), then instead of one person's name, like "Teresa Hopson," it would state two first names, like "Teresa and Supten," or maybe two last names. Or simply "Various Infobitters"?

Whatever; this is speculative because again, this is going to need a software change...

On phone not browser right now so can't check. Doesn't the system already credit bitt creator and a plus sign with a count of one or more? I like that approach for weekly, too.

The reason I prefer to pull up a newer fact of an ongoing story is to
make the bitt up to date. The other alternative would be to create a
new bitt altogether.

Supten: makes sense. I do that too; I think I've seen Teresa and probably others do it, and I don't think anybody really minds in that case (tell me if you feel otherwise).
