Where does the list for the CTE Certification come from? Is this something that we need to maintain or is it something that Campus maintains? We were trying to enter the certs our students took this year and we have several that we can't enter because they're not in the drop-down.

Good morning Stacy!
I just had this come up and I checked with CIC to see if I could add it to the dictionary. It's in Program Participation - Certification Name.

CIC says to be sure to use the correct code, so we updated ours.

The state codes are listed in the SPECS Appendix E: CTE Cert Code.  In v1.15 this is page 109.  I'm appreciating this thread right now because I was informed that some of our students earned a cert for KCCTO.  I was not finding this in IC the last time I tried.  Looks like the specs updated it in the last version too.

Ok, back at the once a year things.  When I first started this, KCCTO was not an option for reporting, but it looks to be now.  My thing is, I'm not seeing it as an option in IC and am having a "brain fluff" as to what I need to do to be able to report our students who have earned this.  I'm not quite as experienced with IC as some of you are so I feel like some dumbed down instructions would be really helpful. 😁

I was listening in on the CCS session on Graduation/Academic Programs. I asked if there was a good way to set up a program to see if students received 2 or more CTE certifications. She said it pretty quick, but I'm not sure there is a quick way to do this.

She showed a couple of options. Which I think will be the way to go, but I feel like we will still have to have the individual certifications listed out. Maybe I misunderstood, but I don't think the speaker truly understood how many certifications we have available and how many PSAs we are dealing with. I didn't go into the details and I was only asking about CTE Certs so I can't blame her for that.

I think we will just have to have a separate academic program for each certification and then on a separate program add each certification program to the Program Criteria list and add each certification program and enter the minimum required. I was using 2 as my number, but I honestly can't remember the correct count.

That's basically what the speaker had in her example. She only had like 5 though. Then on the graduation program under Program Criteria she added an option to where she added all 5 of her cert programs and did  a logical expression to capture the possible combinations. So if there were 5 certs she had an expression of (1 AND 2) OR (1 AND 3) OR (1 AND 4), etc.

If anyone has found a better solution though I think we should all buy that person dinner.

Hi Leslie,

Where is the KCCTO going for reporting? I'm not familiar enough with this one...

Stacy - I'm still playing with mine. You do have the right idea. Up until now I have just kept all my CTE Certs in a single academic program because it feeds state reporting on KCAN just fine. I'm trying to see if we can just reuse that program over and over again.

Hope I figure it out soon.

Yea I think there are 3 different academic programs we're looking at for CTE Certs.

1. KCAN CTE Cert Logging
This one is where the certifications are logged and will report out on KCAN.

2. PSA CTE Cert Tracking (I know logging and tracking should be the same, but I think in this case it's not)
This is where I'm thinking we will have to have a separate program for each cert to identify students who have a passed cert in the log.

3. PSA CTE Cert Count
This is where I'm thinking we will then pull in all the tracking programs with requirement of 2+

Then the count program is the one we use to check if students have 2+ PSAs. I've tried a few different options and so far this is the "best" route I've found and it sounded like that's what the training I asked was saying.

Ideally, I'd like to get it to just the second and third level you wrote out Stacy.   The only reason I have a generic KCAN one instead of the different certificates in their own plan is being in a hurry the first year we realized we needed that for the extract.

I have just determined that you cannot make a single academic plan count multiples of another. So level 1 + 3 are not going to work. At least #2 has to be in there.

Okay, full disclosure I just realized Stacy that you are trying to count if the student has two certifications and I am not sure why they need two?

Backing up on this thread a couple of messages….

Leslie,

For “KCCTO” cert tracking, is that for the KCAN CTE Certifications that you are talking about?

If it is for KCAN CTE certs, then I think if you scroll down this email to Karlean’s message on Jun 30, 2025 at 8:19AM, (screenshot is from older look of this page, but still same thing) and were we need to enter those in IC is System Settings > Custom Data and Links > Core Attribute/Dictionary: Program Participation > Certification Name.

Does that give you what you were looking for or is this cert for PSA certifications? If PSA certifications, that goes into the conversation Stacy and Karlean had in this thread earlier today….

I could have sworn there was a count requirement on the CTE certs. Like you had to have earned 2 or more certs or something. But, I looks at the KSDE page and verified with our high school people who are working on this and I was obviously wrong. I even asked my boss and he remembered it as a 2+ as well. We must be having the same delusion lol.

That should help make that easier in my mind at least.

Stacy,
I think you may have been thinking about the 2+ on the activities, not the CTE certs. Gonna get a A LOT simpler now.

Our CTE coordinator is the one that runs the KCCTO.  I didn't think it would be something other than CTE.  My thought was that it would report on the KCAN.  If that isn't the case, then I guess I would need to figure out if we need to put it in IC and how to get that done.

To add to this, I have not even started on the PSA setup in IC.  I wear too many hats and have not had the time to do it.  But yesterday was the last day of school for teachers and students, so maybe I can start working on it soon. I'm nervous about it.

Jared, yes, thank you. I went back and attempted to add it in the Core Attributes, but it turns out it really was already listed.  Just not perfectly worded the same.  So I was able to add it in the Generic KCAN Certs program that I have.  I'm behind on the PSA tracking setup, so I am lost on some of this thread.  But for now, I figured out the one thing I was trying to do.
