SA School of Individualism (SASI) April 2025 Newsletter

SASI has been rather quiet for the last month while I did a major upgrade on the blog and website, for which I apologise. This newsletter provides details of these changes, as well as other developments.

Individualist Movement (IM) blog

I maintain a repository of articles written by myself and others over the years, at www.libertarian.org.za. During the last month I have scoured my hard drive and other blogs for worthy articles and have added them to the newly structured IM blog. This now consists of more than 150 articles, some of them pretty good if I say so myself.

I have adopted the “dynamic” style provided by Google’s blogspot software. This presents the articles as an array of pictures and titles. By passing your cursor over any picture, it dynamically swaps to show the article title. Clicking on the title opens the article.

You can sort the articles by date published, allocated label or tag, or author. There is a very effective search facility as well, that searches the text content as well as the titles.

You can select from 7 different styles for displaying the blog.

The blog is best viewed on the desktop, although you can view a less fancy version on your cellphone.

Individualist Movement (IM) website

The IM website has been tidied up to be more user friendly. As I suspect some visitors did not realise you had to click on the “hamburger” in the top left to bring up the side menu, I have moved the menus to the top line rather than the side, where they are always displayed.

The website includes a membership form, a list of all our social media facilities, a long list of links to interesting freedom related sites, predictions, quizzes and our calendar.

Membership

After the email blitz at the beginning of the year, here are the current statistics

16 co-founders

7 fellows

45 members

1 affiliate

69 SASI members total

57 opened email, but did not respond or register

7 responded but did not register

2 responded , not interested

164 received but did not open email

37 Eastern Cape

50 Western Cape

51 overseas

127 current or past libertarians did not register

REP index

I have recently created a “REP index”. Using this index you can derive a single 3 digit number which is highly descriptive of your overall position  on 3 continuums, namely Religion, Economics and Politics  You can compare and contrast your REP# to others in  order to quickly understand their position, before injuring any of their holy cows. My REP# is 002, what is yours? Let me know and I will add you to our spreadsheet analysis.

The REP index survey is on the Individualist Movement website at https://sites.google.com/view/individualist/quizzes/rep-index.

MEET up

I have been keen to meet other SASI members and to hear their ideas and perspectives on what we are trying to do, and the best way to do  it. This will be in the form of a Google Meet online event on Wednesday 14th May from 7pm. If you have gmail, you have access to Google Meet, or it is easily installed..

Simply respond to this invite to be a part of this meeting.

Unique proposition

SASI represents a unique proposition - that peace and prosperity can be achieved by individuals using the HarmConsentRule (HCR). Help us take this idea to a wider audience.

Hi Trevor,

I do apologise. I am weaning myself off social media and try and restrict emails to once/week. There is just so much information competing for screen time these days. It is overwhelming, unsustainable (for me) and bad for my health.

I enjoy pretty much everything connected to classical liberalism, but just no longer have the capacity to engage meaningfully, or even non meaningfully.

WhatsApp’s are good for urgent matters,

Warmest wishes as always

Ron

I did the same for a while, but realized a) the root cause went away, but the bad habits remained, b) volume is only part of the problem, the quality seems to have diminished substantially too, c) my desire for content is bigger than my desire for health and sanity... in short, I cannot help myself but slurp up every bit of meaningless drivel with glee. I wish there were a small, digestable amount of high quality content, like in the good old days... but all that remains of that is nostalgia. What remains is not just enormous, but also deeply biased, warped and superficial... it's all we have though.

P.S. REP=000 ;-)

S.
