This does NOT match Potentilla peduncularis - a species not recorded from H.P. but not found further West than Nepal.

There are quite a lot of Potentillas in H.P., some of which I am not familiar with yet.  I shall take another look at this when time
permits - though have a pretty good idea what it probably is.

You will agree that this does not look at all like the other Potentilla from Ladakh which has been posted under the same name.

Dear Mr. Chadwell,

Thanks for pointing out the mis-identification by me. It sure is not Potentilla peduncularis. Another case of casual matching of images with something similar looking and arriving at identification! I'll try to be more careful in future.

Kindly, help in identification of the species.

Dear Dr Goraya

Thanks for accepting the correction in the right spirit.  As fellow-scientists we have a duty to accept such things (even
though it is not an enjoyable experience) as having the correct identification (always with the proviso, "to the best of
current knowledge") is CRUCIAL and we are duty-bound to present reliable information.  As is said on this site, we are all
fallible.  But must accept "peer-reviewing" not just nationally but internationally.  It is part of maintaining high standards.
We all should AIM for high standards, such that those coming to view images on the efI can have confidence in the naming.
I am sure members of this group wish for the data-base to be respected by knowledgeable people.

It is always much easier (and quicker) to say what a plant is NOT, rather than what it is!

We are ALL guilty of, sometimes, rushing to an identification - it is SO time-consuming to check and RELIABLE references
are not always to-hand plus it is easy to TRUST all sources, whereas MISIDENTIFICATIONS are COMMON, whether in
printed books or on-line. With mistakes repeated and copied. Or they contribute to greater confusion.

Experience has taught me the NECESSITY not to automatically trust records.

As scientists, it is our DUTY/OBLIGATION to point out errors/mistakes.

Best Wishes,

Chris Chadwell
