Fraser's Hill - 18/07/2014.I was intrigued by this fruit & would love to know the ID :) Noticed the beautiful details only when zooming in on the camera monitor! The central portion is inky black & glutinous in quality.
 Thank you

Ranjini:
Seems this has stumped us all

did you buy any books about flora and fauna of the places you visit...
I find that helps often

anyway I am still hopeful that someone will know...
pankaj is unusually quiet these days, I was hoping at least he would have some ideas.

Usha di, About buying a book on local flora & fauna,I'll definitely keep in mind.Yes,it would be so useful.About this particular fruit particularly - because I found the centre moving up & down - 'pulsating' would be a bit much but that term comes closest to what I saw.It must have been a fresh fall.Intriguing, isn't it? You can now understand why I am so eager to know it's identity.

intriguing?
may be

but in the tropics especially, one has to consider what has parasitized the fruit as a part of natural life cycle or if a beetle or some such insect on the ground got underneath it and was brown or mottled that could not be seen very quickly or at all.... then the movement of the insect inside or unde4rneath would give it a movement of sorts...
just a thought.

lets hope  some one tells us...

To me it looks like an infected, dried inflorescence of a Rubiaceae member (Ixora type?; note the typical stipules and leaf-scars).
The fine whitish structures could be of dehisced anthers. The petals / corolla lobes might have been dried and shrunk.

This is just an assumption and I may very well be wrong.

a most plausible  explanation.
