There are two grasses which look just the same in vegetative stage. 1. Digitaria didactyla which is cultivated and 2. Axonopus compressus which is natural. If you can find out the inflorescence it can be easily distinguished as either of the two.

Generally they are trimmed and not allowed to grow.
But I will definitely keep a watch for the flowers and update when I find them.

I could find the inflorescence today morning, which had escaped trimming.

You were right.
Manoj Ji has also replied to me as follows
"Axonopus compressus (spikelets are on opposite sides of Axis and the leaf sheaths are compressed. Hence the name Axonopus compressus)"
