Leaves vary a lot in their lobation ......this species and A. tuberculatus , both grow in plenty every year ...their leaves 
very from entire to shallowly to deeply 3 to 5 lobed with lobes narrow to wide . 
Keys in many publications do not include leaf as a factor .

If you simply say Abelmoschus manihot subsp. tetraphyllus (Roxb. ex Hornem.) Borss.Waalk., it will mean Abelmoschus manihot subsp. tetraphyllus var. tetraphylla and not Abelmoschus manihot subsp. tetraphyllus var. pungens
