Habitat:Wild,terrestrial,evergreen forest fringe.

 

Sighting:Near Chikmagalur,about 1700 msl

 

Date:06-08-2016,19-08-2016 and 26-08-2016

No Pankaj ji. I did not sniff it...and it didnt occurr to me at that point of time....Wondering what this could be....It was the only plant in the vicinity where it was found...Please examine and place it.

It is Habenaria gibsonii.
If smell was good then Habenaria gibsonii var. gibsonii; if the smell was bad then Habenaria gibsonii var. foetida.

Thanks Pankaj ji....One thing I am sure,it was not offensive when I went near the plant close enough to take some macros.There was nothing in the air.Any foul smell would have been registered in my mind involuntarily...!

Yes this is again Habenaria gibsoni var, foetida as the upper segment of the two lobed lateral petal is longer than the lower segment.
And ofcourse as the name foetida suggests, it will have a foetid smell.
