Dear Dinesh Ji,
Plant apparently looks like Ammannia baccifera to me but the plants that I have seen in and around Kolkata in more dense in morphology and mostly grows in and around water bodies. I will also like to get confirmed about the plant. In the mean time please match with the description and diagrammatic illustration of the plant in "Eflora of Pakistan" you will be more potent person to co relate the description and image of the plant as you have seen it with your own eyes.

Regards
Tanay

Gurcharan ji this is nothing other than Ammannia baccifera. I have collected this plant from near Wainganga river bank and also from Hilly area of Balaghat district and found variation in density.

I can post it if required.

Aarti ji, I think you may post your pics of Ammannia baccifera ... I too have a few photos of A. baccifera ... but the above photos show plant in a different stage - I am not sure whether I am looking at fruits OR are they buds.

Regards.

Axillary cluster, seemingly sessile flowers / fruits - I was not able to find any Neanotis.
A. baccifera too has purplish flowers. Any reason why Ammannia is ruled out ?

Dear Dinesh,

well the general appearance of this plant is unlike any Ammannia I know.( density of flowers, colour of stem, size and shape of calyx) The habitat is also not matching.
Will continue to think on this. It is surely a plant we all know.

Radha
