Many thanks Garg ji.
I will take it as Symplocos cochinchinensis subsp. laurina, now considered as synonym of Symplocos acuminata (Blume) Miq. at POWO.
Regards.

Many thanks Garg ji.
I checked the species of Symplocos found in the Ooty - Coonoor region - they are:
Symplocos obtusa Wall. ex G.Don
Symplocos foliosa Wight
Symplocos cochinchinensis subsp. laurina (Retz.) Noot. (Symplocos acuminata (Blume) Miq.)

The best possibility of the posted plant would be   Symplocos cochinchinensis subsp. laurina (Retz.) Noot. ... assuming some variations in the leaves.
Ruled out possibility of Symplocos racemosa Roxb. because it rarely occurs at high altitude.

Regards.

There are few other species reported from Nilgiri district as per IFO:
https://indiaflora-ces.iisc.ac.in/herbsheet.php?id=11478&cat=13 (Symplocos racemosa)
https://indiaflora-ces.iisc.ac.in/herbsheet.php?id=11462&cat=13 (Symplocos lucida)
https://indiaflora-ces.iisc.ac.in/herbsheet.php?id=11465&cat=13 (Symplocos macrophylla)

Species of Symplocos found in the Ooty - Coonoor (high altitude) region:
  1. Symplocos obtusa Wall. ex G.Don
  2. Symplocos foliosa Wight
  3. Symplocos cochinchinensis subsp. laurina (Retz.) Noot. (Symplocos acuminata (Blume) Miq.)
The posted plant was found at approx 1900 m asl
Symplocos racemosa Roxb. rarely occurs at high altitude. I am not sure.
I have not checked S. lucida / S. macrophylla.

Thanks, Dinesh ji.
From where did you get these details of distribution in Ooty- Coonoor region and altitude of distribution for Symplocos racemosa Roxb. ?

I put my query in Google's AI.
It can return wrong responses.

Thanks, Dinesh ji.
If you mention Google AI as reference, it will be helpful to others like me, in dealing with the matter further.

Sure Garg ji.
I will do that henceforth, by sharing the link to the query.
Normally, the information I put is fetched from Google's AI to save time, with the explicit knowledge that the responses may at times be wrong or misleading.
Regards.

I agree, Garg ji, there are variations in leaves seen.
I am hoping the ID gets validated here or in iNaturalist. I am not sure whether the variations in leaves are natural or not.
Regards.
