Iomoea acanthocarpa , synonym Ipomoea piurensis
Collected from roadside bushes just outside Surat City , Gujarat
on the morning of 02 10 2019 , first flowers of this season .
This year it flowered late . it is an annual vine , spreads along ground , climbs nearby vegetation , fences , may be upto 4-5 meters .
Seedlings appear after first rains , and vine dies by end of November .
It has been reported from MH and other states of South India .
Stem is red , has shallow longitudinal grooves and is Tuberculated .
Leaf is never lobed , has red veins . Calyx small , about 6mm , outer two tuberculated . Non hairy .
Petiole longer , peduncle to inflorescence shorter , emerging from leaf axil .
Inflorescence a short cyme of usually 3 buds , not all reach flowering stage .
Flowers open up in morning , wither by noon .
Capsule usually about 1 cm dia , spherical or short spindle , style persistent , spiny . 3mm , dehiscent by multiple longitudinal splits .
Calyx persists , not appressed ,
Testa covered in long soft wavy white hairs .
