I was reading an article related to the Kargil war today when my attention was drawn to an article which had the word 'flowers' in the headline and picture of a pretty flower too (web link above).

I took more interest in it only to realize it was written by our member Vikram Jit Singh and mentioned our member Dr Gurcharan Singh also and therefore am sharing this information (and weblink above) with the group.

Regards,

Samir Mehta

Thank you for your nice article on Kargil, Vikram Jit Singh ji
Capt. Vikram Batra was my two years junior in B.Sc. Medical at DAVC, Chandigarh. He was also in NCC. Later, he shifted to arts in PU, Chandigarh.  We used to talk with each other many times due to Himachali bond.

A pleasure to share this article with an esteemed, distinguished group of botanists and flower lovers.

You may like to have a look at the video shot on July 7, 2019, by Col. Rajesh Kalia, where Capt Vikram Batra's comrades from the 13 JAK Rifles went to top of Point 4875, better known as Batra Top, where he gallantly charged an enemy bunker on July 7, 1999. His twin brother, Vishal, is also there in the video who now resides in Chandigarh. They are in unison voicing their battalion's battle cry at a height of 15,990 feet (Point 4875).

At the extreme right in the video is Col. Sanjeev Singh Jamwal, whose Bravo Company fought alongside Vikram Batra in the assault of Point 5140 on June 19/20, 1999, where Batra radioed back his famous victory signal, Yeh dil mange more'. Jamwal's victory signal was 'O ya, ya' from his days as part of Hunter Squadron in the NDA. Jamwal was the closest to Batra. On July 7, 2019, while at the Drass War Memorial, Jamwal stated: "Not only is Vishal a perfect lookalike of Vikram but his voice is so similar that it enters my ears and pierces my heart.''
