I'm glad I got a chance to see this grass again, and I'm clicked the photographs of it. These include macro photos of some spikelets. I request Manoj Ji to review the photographs and confirm it's D. violascens.

But iNaturalist suggests a similar species, which is Digitaria ischaemum, but when checking its distribution on POWO, it doesn't show up as being present in India
So I think Manoj ji is correct
