To: itpmods <itp...@googlegroups.com>

While we should be happy that in most of the Google searches (which has species featured on eflorafindia) our website gets listed in top two or three websites, on clicking it is shown as dangerous website. Earlier the danger screen would vanish after a few seconds, now in 95 percent of cases it persists and you have to exit the website. This is a very serious issue which needs to addressed for permanent solution. Whereas we may educate a few people on the moderator group or even plus 3000 members of efloraofindia, what about general public for whom this website is ultimately meant. Anyone who sees warning sign a couple of times would never go back to our website and may even warn his/her friends about it.
      Unless urgent solution is found, we may land into category of websites which users may desist from visiting.

And what I find problem is with the individual pages, not the website in general Today I opened homepage (it went well), clicked alphabetic list, was able to see genera of Rosaceae. Acaena page was fine but A. echinata deceptive; Agrimonia page deceptive, Alchemilla page was fine but species pages deceptive, Aruncus alright but species pages deceptive, Chaenomeles, Comarum both fine but species pages deceptive. Cotoneaster page itself deceptive and so on.
      I am using Chrome, and my concern is we can't ask millions of users around the World to use a particular browser and how to add it to safe websites, especially when so many websites are becoming notorious.

Thanks, Singh ji,
We have been discussing this for sometime now.
My feeling is that due to constant updation in the browsers.
I have been reporting the matter to Google as well as Gogle sites on daily basis.
Hope they may look into it or it may be generalised problem, which they may be trying to address.

Thanks, Singh ji.
It is OK as long as you do not open more pages or click on images for opening.
Once you do that, site is marked as dangerous.

Garg ji, I have been regularly doing Google search for plant names, may be more than 500 times a day, while updating my database, and in last few days our website features prominently, but when we click the page from Google search it is among 2-3 percent of websites which are listed dangerous. I am looking from the point of view of general user. Once he/she finds it a dangerous website couple of times, may not come back at all. This way ours years of hard labour may be just wasted.

I have again reported the matter to Google under Deceptive Site Ahead, as below:
'I am the owner of this site. This is happening from last 12 days or so, in Chrome on clicking on any image, for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it was never like it.'

I also reported the matter to Google sites again today, under Report an Issue like this:
'I am the owner of this site. Chrome is showing  this Google site as Dangerous as can be seen on the left side of the address bar since last 12 days or so. Due to this, persons who want to access this, are getting Deceptive Site Ahead warning on clicking on any thumbnails or links. Pl. look into and rectify'

I request the members also to report the matter to Google on similar lines.

Thanks, Singh ji,
We have handled many storms in the past. I am hopeful this will also pass away and we will come out stronger. I think it is just a matter of time.
We had problems in posting as attachments, we got out of it.
We were not having search properly in our google site for quite sometime.
We had lot of issues in uploading of images and our site was not accessible number of times.
Ultimately all these were Google problems and many times due to handling of the problems by Google Bots (programmes).
But finally all these were resolved by Google, though sometimes they took quite long.
Being a google site, I am hopeful they (Google) will resolve this issue also.

Thanks Garg ji, the more prominent you are the more vulnerable you are. As pointed out earlier our website appeared never so prominently as now in Google searches, thanks largely to your efforts especially over last few months when I see more than 50 notifications of updation every day. I greatly admire your dedication, that makes me more concerned about popularity of our website.

Thanks, Singh ji, for the nice words. You laid the foundation and we all are just working on that.
As far as current issue is concerned, we are helpless as of now and do not find any other way except reporting the matter to Google.
We have always traveled in uncharted territory.

Garg ji, I understand the images inserted into eFI Site are from the eFI Group.
The content of Group are posts or messages, which are certainly secured by Google.

I am naive about this matter - but when we seek images from secured content of Group into Site, there is a possibility that a warning gets triggered. Such warning could be because of evolution of better security in Google's software. But this is just my thought. I may not be correct.

To check out alternative treatment of inserting images, few images from Group must be uploaded to Google Photos of your account, clearly setting the image access to public. Try inserting those images into site's page, and share URL of that page in itpmods. We will check whether we succeed in getting rid of this issue.

Regards.
Dinesh

Thanks, Dinesh ji.
But that is how our site has been built.
I will start reporting the matter in this way from tomorrow onwards, to Google and Google sites.
Hope they will understand the understand the underlying problem and take necessary steps to rectify the situation.
There has been similar issues when inserting images with search in efi site getting disoriented (which gave us trouble for about a year or so) and site sometimes not being accessible, which they used to rectify on reporting the matter to Google and to Google sites.
You can look at moderators images, which have been uploaded directly from PC.
I will also have a look tomorrow.

Since our group is open to public access, whether being a member or just some viewer, there does not arise any security issue of seeking images from the posts. Now that the problem is persisting, it has made me think in different fashion. I think only Google engineer will be help us out with appropriate solution.
Let us hope for a sure resolve from their end.

I have again reported the matter to Google under Deceptive Site Ahead, as below:

I am the owner of this site. This is happening from last 14 days or so, in Chrome on clicking on any image (images in the site has been inserted from urls of the discussions in our Google group- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix), for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it has never happened like this.

I also reported the matter to Google sites again today, under Report an Issue like this:

I am the owner of this site. Chrome is showing this Google site as Dangerous, on opening of any page or image due to Deceptive Site Ahead warning, as can be seen on the left side of the address bar since last 14 days or so. This may be as the images in the site has been inserted from urls of the discussions in our Google group- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix. Due to this, persons who want to access this, are getting Deceptive Site Ahead warning on clicking on any thumbnails or links. Pl. look into and rectify.

I request the members also to report the matter to Google on similar lines.

I have sent feedback again today (have included screenshot too).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello team at Google Sites,
Bringing to your notice, recent "no display" of inserted images in Google Sites. The images inserted in the site are sought from Google Group (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix). This issue is persisting since about a fortnight.
Clicking on the exposed links of inserted images show page with warning: Deceptive Site Ahead.
I hope you resolve the issue at earliest.
Best wishes, regards.
Dinesh Valke
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For those who intending to send feedback, please look out for settings icon (looks like gearwheel) at right top of any page in eFI site.
I have attached two small screenshots to identify the settings icon, and its dropdown menu. The last item of menu is "Report an Issue".
Click on it, and put your feedback, do please include screenshot of small area the page which shows the exposed links of inserted images.

Regards.
Dinesh

Hi Garg ji,

I recently watched some youtube videos claiming to have a fix on this "Deceptive site ahead" warning issue. Many users have mentioned it worked for them. Please give it a try and see if it works for our site.

Best,

Thanks, Vijayasankar ji.
I tried. Our site is already there in the Google console.
Problem seems to be from files uploaded from google groups in efi site as images.
I tries but do not know, how to upload Google verification html file in our Google site or Google group, for further verification.

What I find more strange is that I am not able to sign in efi site in Internet explorer in my laptop at home, while it is working fine in Internet explore in my Desktop in Office.

how will we ever find out who uploaded something or somethings that's triggering the response.

thousands of cases

but since this is a recent phenomenon, may be we can quarantine last one year cases or something like that
and go thru page by page or case by case?

Hi, Ushadi,
Problem appears to image addresses of images in efi site, being inserted from Google groups as pointed out by Dinesh ji. That is why problem gets triggered on clicking on any image.
We have written to Google to rectify. As this has been recent phenomenon, Google will take care in due course, both being its babies.

This is for hacked sites, while our issue is different (insertion of images from google group urls, which is fagging off warnings).

I have not been following this thread, but I found something. Not sure if you guys have followed these steps before but try it.
It worked for me.
Once done, you need to reopen your browser. I use Google Chrome.

Turn off warnings about dangerous & deceptive sites

If you don't want to be warned about unsafe content, you can turn off deceptive and dangerous site alerts. This also turns off download warnings.

Important: We do not recommend turning off alerts.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More Moreand then Settings.
  3. Under "People," click Sync and Google Services.
  4. Under "Other Google Services," turn off Safe Browsing.

I have again reported the matter to Google under Deceptive Site Ahead, as below:

'I am the owner of this site. This is happening from last 3 weeks, in Chrome on clicking on any image (images in the site has been inserted from urls of the discussions in our Google group- https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/indiantreepix), for all pages in this Google site but is OK in Internet Explorer. Earlier for last 9 years it has never happened like this.'

I also reported the matter to Google sites in Chrome again today, under Report an Issue like this:
'I am the owner of this site. Due to this, persons who want to access this, are getting Deceptive Site Ahead warning on clicking on any thumbnails or links or opening any pages. Pl. look into and rectify.'

I tried it myself in Chrome. Yes, it is working fine. So members who are having any issue with Chrome can follow it.

Okay , I turned off 'safe browsing' and the nuisance is gone for now ...........two issues remain.........one , what ever protection 'safe browsing'
was providing , is gone . Two , how to tell every user across the globe to turn off 'safe browsing' .

What you turned off is SAFE BROWSING AMONG GOOGLE SITES.
I am sure google sites doesnt have virus sites. So its ok.

The idea of my post was not how we few of us on Itpmods or even rest of the members can access our website, but how general users for whom the website is meant will access the site, and finding it deceptive, not move away from it. We few can take measures to open the website, how general users can do it. They won't take risk, even if they find out the method.

I think If we turn off safe browsing , it will afect all browsing activity , not only google sites......that is where our antivirus will come into play , and window's defender too if we choose to use it .

  For now I have turned off safe browsing , but I shall be actvating it time to time to see if problem is resolved from google's end .

Dear Gurcharan ji, your concern is valid.
Much of the non-member-visitors will land on pages of eFI; when they click on exposed links of inserted images, they will face the warning page just like most of us do. After that, it is left to their decision. This will go on until the issue is resolved by Google - by doing some changes in settings of Groups' image locations (URLs). This is just my understanding, not sure how correct it is.
Regards.
Dinesh
