Rugged Yellow Balsam (Imaptiens scabrida) must be one of the hardiest wildflower on our mountain slopes. The plant is barely off the ground and the flowers are out (see picture). Its handsome leaves, loved by tiny metallic-blue beetles, are mostly perforated. They are growing everywhere now, growing up to two-and-a-half feet at places with individual flowers or with several in a bunch. Here are a few pictures taken mostly in August/September.
