we have a page

though I have only seen them in highly cosseted glass houses in the western countries

and not in our botanical gardens on the eastern gangetic planes

nor in the "Jungles": more like overgrown neglected mango orchards of old family owned jamindaris

while I was pondering these weird data in my mind,

I was surfing absentmindedly for just a few botanical drawings of this beautiful flower

and I found this picture and its parent page , a hortus from a nursery and hotsouse gardens in AUSTRALIA of all places,

is really from Curtis's botanical journal page 58 .

why is it worth mentioning?

it is because.....

The writer of that hortus , says its not fragrant, but also tells us that Roxburgh had said its fragrant.

and surmises that perhaps the heat of a tropical forest is needed to bring out the fragrance//scent of the flower.

MY QUESTION TO ALL OF OUR MEMBERS , INCLUDING SHOBHA,

did you notice a scent near this vine or the flower?

I wonder if it should sprout out in a few months after monsoon and heat?

I feel I have not noticed any fragrance in wild flowers I have seen. May be it is very mild or not during the day time.

Thanks once again Ushadi ji for the additional information and I must confess that I didn't notice any fragrance from these flowers.Again Sirsi being a hill station from Karnataka the climate may not be very hot throughout the year.So perhaps the question of fragrant flowers even in summer is ruled out.

Just deviating a bit, I had seen a climber in Wayanad last winter and looking at those flowers thought that these should be Thunbergia fragrans.I don't know id of the flower yet but posting it in this thread just to remove the confusion.

Latest image looks like a Thunbergia , but not T. fragrans ......throat is wide .

Seems to be Thunbergia grandiflora 'Alba'.

Leaves would have helped.

It is not Thunbergia fragrance. I have T.fragrance in my home garden. Though the species name is fragrance it does not have any fragrance. Posting the pictures in a separate mail.
