Dear Muthu ,
I also hope this plant is

Pluchea lanceolata (DC.) C. B. Clarke, Composit. Ind. 94. 1876; Oliver & Hiern, Fl. Trop. Afr. 3: 329. 1877; Hook.f., Fl. Brit. Ind. 3: 272. 1881; R. R. Stewart, Ann. Cat. Vasc. Pl. W. Pak. & Kashm. 768. 1972; Rech. f., Fl. Iran. 145: 8. 1980; S. Kumar in Hajra et al., Fl. Ind. 13: 155. 1995. (Fig. 25, A-F).

An undershrub, up to 1.5 m tall, branches hoary, terete obscurely striate. Leaves sessile, 1-7 x 0.3-2 cm, oblong-oblanceolate, mucronate, coriaceous, pubescent on both surfaces, margin entire or serrulate, obscurely dentate at the apex, strongly nerved, minutely pubescent on both surfaces. Capitula ovoid or campanulate, 3-5 mm in diameter, arranged in compound terminal corymbs; phyllaries 2-3 seriate, outer ones purple tinged at the apex, broadly, obovate, obtuse, entire, pubescent, 2.5-3.5 mm long, silky pubescent, inner linear entire, 4-6 mm long. Florets pink, outer female florets many, filiform, disc florets tubular, few, 4-18, bisexual but functionally male. Anthers caudate. Cypselas small, white, linear, glabrous; pappus setae 20-26, distinctly connate at base.

Regards

I wish to differ from Pluchea lanceolata on account of following-
1. It is not an undershrub, instead it is 2.5 tall shrub
2. Leaves are not sessile and oblong, they are petiolate and elliptic
The plant is recorded to the north of gangetic plains.
I feel that the plant is Vernonia divergens Edgew. Regards, Shrikant

You seem to have got the correct identity
It does appear like Pluchea odorata.

Just a point of observation..Original photograph - leaves have short petiole. Herbarium specimen shows longer petiole.
Inflorescence in photograph looks axillary as well as terminal, while in the herbarium sheet - it looks terminal.

Some earlier relevant feedback:

 May be Pluchea lanceolata

Satish Chile
I also hope this plant is Pluchea lanceolata (DC.) C. B. Clarke ...............
Regards
Tanay

I wish to differ from Pluchea lanceolata on account of following-
1. It is not an undershrub, instead it is 2.5 tall shrub
2. Leaves are not sessile and oblong, they are petiolate and elliptic
The plant is recorded to the north of gangetic plains.
I feel that the plant is Vernonia divergens Edgew. Regards, Shrikant

Mind the other characters of V.devergens i.e. Leaves in the upper branches, flowering twigs small....heads in much brached penicled corymbs....verify please
Satish

Not Pluchea lanceolata for sure, the leaves are much broader than that. I am uploading my specimens of Pluchea lanceolata.

--
Dr. Gurcharan Singh

I think it is Vernonia sp.
With regards
R. Vijayasankar

Not Pluchea lanceolata, because we have confirm specimen of said species.

It must be member of Vernonia?
Regards
Pankaj

can be Phuclea, NOT P. lanceolata. teh branches and leaves are similar to Pluchea.

Regards
Satish Pardeshi

  it may be pluchea odorata
