Plant name: Cenchrus biflorus Roxb., Fl. Ind. 1: 238. 1820.

Ver.name: Indian sandbur (Eng.).

Family: Poaceae

Description:

A tufted annual, culms geniculately ascending, 10-60 cm high. Culm internodes hollow, nodes glabrous. Lateral branches branched. Leaves basal and cauline; leaf-sheaths scabrous; ligule a fringe of hairs; lamina linear or lanceolate, 2-25 × 0.3-0.8cm, flat and rigid. Panicle linear, 2-15 cm long. Spikelets sessile, 1-3 in the cluster. Involucre composed of bristles. Fertile spikelets 2-flowered, the lower floret barren or rarely male; the upper fertile, comprising 1 basal sterile floret and 1 fertile floret. Glumes without keels and dissimilar. Lower glume lanceolate, membranous; upper glume ovate. Anthers 3. Nut ovoid.
Habitat & location: Occasional in dry sandy soils. Photographed at Somasila.

Respected Garg sir and Manoj sir,
There must be some confusion. These photos do not look like to be true C. biflorus but may be C. ciliaris as pointed out by Anil sir..
I have posted photos of true C. biflorus just recently, please see, YS - Apr2020-10.

I think Yogeshji is right. It is more likely a deformed inflorescence of Cenchrus ciliaris and not C.biflorus.
