flora of Hooghly district (West Bengal) : Portulaca quadrifida L.

Sir,

I first noticed this wild prostrate herb in 2018, on a railway platform. At first look I ignored it assuming to be Portulaca oleracea L. But on a second look I noted marked differences in leaf and flower size along with certain other features. I think the attached picture is of Portulaca quadrifida L. I took the photographs on my entry-level mobile phone... on 17-08-2019. So, please bear with the quality.

It was my first record of this species. It appears to be so common as the other one.

Please read "....It appears to be not so common as the other one..." in place of "... It appears to be so common as the other one. " .

Nice posting . In the light of your posting I think I need to check the P.oleracea species seen around my house !!!.

Portulaca quadrifida of course !

In Bihar , is called Noni नोनी . Is consumed as green veg , most commonly a fritter पकौड़ा .

PAKAURA is my favourite too, though never tried with Portulaca sp. Wonder how it tastes!
